Open Garden Squares tours at Providence Row

Providence Row will be opening up their fantastic roof and courtyard gardens to the general public for tours as part of the Open Garden Squares weekend on Saturday 9 June between midday and 4pm.

Open Garden Squares Weekend takes place annually and is the London Gardens Trust’s highest profile event, underpinned by the Trust’s aim of increasing knowledge and the appreciation of London’s green, open space network. 220 hidden, private and little known gardens, including Providence Row’s, open their gates to the public, ranging from the historic and traditional to the new and experimental.
Providence Row's gardens have transformed from an unused courtyard and roof top area into flourishing urban gardens - growing vegetables and herbs for use by the charity’s catering trainees in the preparation of nutritious meals for 30+ rough sleepers every day. These areas also provide therapeutic spaces, off the street, where rough sleepers can go to relax and engage with nature. The rooftop garden which was refurbished and reopened in April 2015 is used as a functional learning and training site for the charity’s Learning Programme and accredited Gardening Trainee Scheme.
During the open day on Saturday the garden tours will also include tasters and treats from the charity’s social enterprise Rise Bakery ( and entertainment.
