Support Providence Row this Christmas | Providence Row
By Olivia, Corporate Volunteering Officer

Christmas is a time for lists and wishes. Letters to Santa. Lists of things to buy in time for the big day. But for people affected by homelessness the list includes things most of us take for granted.

  • A place to call home.
  • A way back into work.
  • A life free from the fear and violence of rough sleeping.

Here at Providence Row we want to make that wish list come true for as many people as possible. Our Christmas Wish List Appeal aims to raise £50,000 over the festive season to support our year-round support services for homeless and vulnerable people in East London.

Last year almost 8,000* people slept rough on London's streets and we worked with 1,692 people at our day centre in Whitechapel.

There are a number of ways you can support our work this winter and beyond into 2019, from making a one-off donation or holding a fundraising event this Christmas to becoming a regular giver so we can plan for the future.

If you’d like to make a donation, or set up a fundraiser, you can visit our appeal page at www.justgiving.com/campaign/christmaswishlistappeal2018 to donate directly or link your Justgiving page to our Christmas campaign.

You can also help by sharing this link with friends, family and co-workers on social media, letting others know you are donating or fundraising, or putting it in to your email signature.

To support our work beyond the winter period, set up a standing order with your bank or direct debit via our website to help us plan for the future. Click here to set up a direct debit or get in touch with us at [email protected] for information on setting up a standing order.

Want to spread the word and get others involved in supporting our work? Here’s a few ideas …

  • Hold a Christmas Jumper Day (and ask for people to make a donation to don their finest festive outfits!)
  • Make a donation in lieu of sending Christmas cards.
  • Have a Christmas bake-sale! They’re popular all year-round, but this an opportunity to really show-off
  • Follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and share our Christmas posts!
  • Christmas juke-box; get the Christmas songs on in the office and encourage everyone to make a donation to have the song of their choice played!

If you would like show your support in person, and hear more about our work, join us at our annual Carol Service on Thursday 13 December. It’s being held at St Mary Moorfields Catholic Church, 4-5 Eldon Street, London EC2M 7LS from 7pm. The service is a wonderful celebration of our work, bringing together our staff, volunteers, clients and supporters and it will be followed by a mulled wine and mince pie reception.
From everyone at Providence Row, we wish you a very happy Christmas.
