Use your lived experience | Providence Row

What is a Peer Mentor?

Peer Mentors have lived experience of homelessness, substance use and/or mental health issues but are now in recovery. They may also have used Providence Row or other support and health services in the past, and now they want to use their knowledge and skills to support our services and help others.

What is the Peer Mentor programme?

The Peer Mentor programme is an online course:

  • Providing remote, structured learning to get you ready for work.
  • Full induction and ongoing support from trained professionals.
  • Fourteen training sessions.
  • A placement within our services or external partners for a maximum of 12 months.

What can it do for me?

Our Peer Mentoring course gives you the skills and experience needed to progress onto education, volunteering and/or employment by:

  • Gaining an E3 and L2, NCFE (Northern Council for Further Education), accreditation.
  • Improving your soft skills, like self-confidence and social skills.
  • 1:1 employability support to help you move forward.

In 19/20, we trained 15 Peer mentors with five moving onto employment after completing the programme.

In 20/21 due to the pandemic we moved our training online and trained 11 Peer mentors with half of them moving onto employment and the rest onto further training and volunteering experience.

Please note that at present, the training is suspended. Further details and update will be showed in due course.
