Our award-winning Outreach Psychotherapy service offers accessible, therapeutic support for people experiencing homelessness.
We work at your client’s pace, offering up to twenty-four supportive sessions in places that feel safe and comfortable for them.
Could your client benefit from a referral?
Independent evaluation shows that our service can help people with:
- Finding and keeping accommodation
- Coping with housing transitions and change
- Feeling more stable day-to-day
- Understanding what sits behind certain behaviours
- Managing emotions and stress
- Feeling more confident expressing themselves
- Noticing triggers for substance use
- Breaking cycles of re-offending
- Processing trauma — both recent and historic
- Recognising strengths and building resilience
Is Psychotherapy Suitable for Your Client?
Our service works best when your client:
- Would like a safe, consistent space to explore their experiences
- Is working with an agreed referral partner in their borough
- (If male) is CHAIN verified — females do not require verification
- Would benefit from a women-only service, if they feel safer or prefer a women-only environment
- May be using substances but is not too intoxicated to safely engage in sessions
- Is safe for lone working; any safety concerns should be discussed before referral
- Does not currently require a Mental Health Team intervention as a priority (please check if unsure)
What we offer
- Client-led, trauma-informed therapy in a safe, non-judgemental space
- Flexible sessions: sitting, walking, or creative approaches such as art and drama (where available)
- Weekly sessions over 24 weeks, at a pace that suits your client
How to refer your client
Complete a referral form with your client. We’ll arrange a relaxed meeting with your client and yourself — an opportunity to discuss the client’s needs and answer any questions.
If it feels like a good fit, therapy sessions can begin at a pace comfortable for your client.
‘A Place Within’ works collaboratively with partners to ensure clients feel supported, safe, and ready to engage in therapy.
